12 Disney Creations That May Be Revived As Live Action Films

Much like Republican presidential candidates, live-action Disney films keep coming out of the woodwork.

The studio is re-upping many of its classic animated films and characters, breathing new life into an array of old features. Considering the major success of live-action movies like Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent and Cinderella, Disney is probably sitting on a boatload of potential blockbusters.

It seems like every other day, new plans for an upcoming reboot are announced — making it hard to keep track of what's in development. Here's a list of all the productions in the works (thus far).

1. Aladdin

A new film, this time about Genie instead of a Aladdin, has just been announced. No stars or directors are attached yet, but the film will be written by team Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Friday the 13th and the upcoming O' Lucky Day, starring Peter Dinklage).

2. The Jungle Book

A live-action Jungle Book directed by Jon Favreau is slated to hit theaters on April 15, 2016. Filming is already underway, with a slew of famous names tapped to voice the roles of the film's animal stars. Newcomer Neel Sethi is set to play the role of Mowgli.

3. Mulan

This announcement is still fresh, but a live-action Mulan is in the works. The film will retell the story of the female warrior who saved China.

4. Dumbo

Tim Burton recently signed on to direct a live-action Dumbo film, based on the 1941 film of the same name. It told the story of an adorable elephant who becomes famous for flying with his ears.

5. Winnie the Pooh

A Winnie the Pooh remake is on the way, but this one will focus more on a grown-up Christopher Robin instead of everyone's favorite little yellow bear.

6. Beauty and the Beast

Easily the most hyped-up adaptation on this list, a live-action version of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson is well into development. It tells the story of a bookish girl who befriends a terrifying beast.

7. The Little Mermaid

Perhaps one of the most enduring Disney films is The Little Mermaid, about a redheaded princess named Ariel who longs to live beyond the sea. Sofia Coppola was originally slated to direct a live-action adaptation, but has since dropped out. No other stars or directors are currently attached.

8. Pinocchio

Director Paul Thomas Anderson is here to make your highbrow Disney dreams come true. The Oscar nominee is penning a script (but is not yet attached to direct) about the wooden puppet with a magical growing nose who's trying to become a real boy.

9. Fantasia

The fantastical 1940 film, comprised of shorter pieces interpreting classical music, is getting the live treatment. The new film will be based on the spooky "Night on a Bald Mountain" segment, which follows a terrifying creature raising spirits from dead.

10. Tinker Bell

Reese Witherspoon will star in an upcoming live-action film about Tinker Bell, everyone's favorite tutu-sporting pixie. Details of the film are still under wraps, but the film will be written by Victoria Strouse, who also wrote the upcoming Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory.

11. Chip 'n' Dale

This remake is definitely the odd one out of the entire group, but it's in the works nonetheless. The chipmunks, Chip and Dale, will still be animated, but will be thrust into a live action world, much like the Smurfs films.

12. Prince Charming

Always wanted to know more about Prince Charming? Well, too bad -- because this film will focus on Prince Charming's brother, "who has struggled to compete thanks to a lack of charm," according to The Guardian.
