We’re deep in to the era of the reboot, with everything from “Sister Act“ to “La Dolce Vita“ getting a remake. Following “Maleficent,” Kenneth Branagh’s “Cinderella” and Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” Disney is sticking to their trend of reworking animated classics for live-action renditions.
The latest to join that group of remakes is Disney’s 1963 fantasy musical “The Sword in the Stone.” It may be easy to lose track of all the Disney reboots, however, so we’ve compiled a list for you. Here’s every Disney animated film currently rumored and officially announced to be getting the live-action treatment:
“Sword in the Stone”
Disney’s 1963 “The Sword in the Stone” is the latest animated classic to get a live-action remake. The Hollywood Reporter revealed on Monday that “Game of Thrones” writer-producer Bryan Cogman is reportedly in talks to write the script about the young King Arthur.
“The Jungle Book”
Jon Favreau is directing this live-action rendition of the 1967 classic, which is due out later this year. Bill Murray is Baloo, Christopher Walken is King Louie, Lupita Nyong’o is Raksha, Ben Kingsley is Bagheera, Giancarlo Esposito is Akela, Scarlett Johansson is Kaa, Idris Elba is Shere Khan and Neel Sethi is Mowlgi.
“Beauty and the Beast”
Bill Condon’s “Beauty and the Beast” will star Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette and Kevin Kline as Belle’s father, Maurice. The remake is due out March 17, 2017.
“Night on Bald Mountain”
One of the scariest segments from Disney’s 1940 “Fantasia“ is being remade for a live-action version: “Night on Bald Mountain,” which features a winged creature that raises the dead.
“Tink”
Reese Witherspoon will bring pixie dust to life when she reportedly portrays Tinkerbell in Disney’s “Peter Pan” spinoff, “Tink.” Witherspoon is also reportedly attached to the project as a producer.
“The Little Mermaid”
Sophia Coppola dropped out of Universal Pictures and Working Title’s live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” last month, but Deadline reported that the project is still allegedly underway despite the director’s exit.
“Dumbo”
A live-action “Dumbo” remake was first rumored to be in the works last year. As of March, we learned Tim Burton was reportedly set to direct the film, which will be a mix of live-action film and animation.
“Pinocchio”
Pinocchio finally gets his chance to become a real boy in this live-action version currently said to be in early development at Disney, with “About a Boy” writer Peter Hedges set to pen the script.
“Mulan”
In March, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the female warrior from the 1998 animated film will come to life in a live-action version.
“Aladdin” Prequel
In mid-July, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Disney is reportedly planning a live-action “Aladdin” prequel. The film, “Genies,” will be based on Robin Williams’ blue Genie and will reportedly lead the way for a live-action “Aladdin.”
Prince Charming
Prince Charming will come to life in his own live-action movie. It’s unclear, though, if he will be the Prince we know from “Cinderella” or “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” — though EW reports Matt Fogel’s script will be “a revisionist take on a handsome prince,” whomever he might be.
“Winnie the Pooh”
Alex Ross Perry is directing this live-action retelling of “Winnie the Pooh“ in a film that will focus on an adult version of Christopher Robin.
Chip ‘n’ Dale
Disney is reportedly working on a live-action version of their Chip ’n’ Dale characters for an origin story to their detective team, Rescue Rangers.
