10 Interesting Facts You Probably Didn't Know About Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The entire Star Wars franchise has been home to some of the most interesting bits of cinematic trivia, and the seventh installment is no exception. With the release of Episode 7: The Force Awakens we've rounded up some more amazing tidbits.

Casting Conundrum

With a film of this size and popularity, the casting choices are obviously going to make monumental changes to people's lives. Take John Boyega for example. When he auditioned for Finn, he was so scared of not getting the part that he didn't tell his family when he finally got the part. He eventually told them after a cast photo was released to the general public.

Blue Leader Standing By

In The Force Awakens, we get to see both the Red and Blue X-Wing squadrons fly into battle. In the original trilogy, we only saw Red Squadron because they couldn't film the blue markings on the X-Wings against the blue-screen backgrounds.

A Grievous Mistake

Legendary actor Gary Oldman, who turned down the opportunity to voice General Grievous in Revenge of the Sith, auditioned for the part of Lor San Tekka. While he was considered for the role, the part ultimately went to Max von Sydow.

A Silent Comeback

According to Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilms, Han and Chewie stepping back aboard the Millennium Falcon, the crew was just as shocked as we were. About 200 people on set stood in silenced as soon as Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew stepped on-set.

The Return Of Royalty

In The Force Awakens, actress Carrie Fisher reprised her role as Leia Organa, this time with the title of General rather than Princess. However, you might recognize a young woman in the Resistance with Princess Leia's old hairstyle from the original film. That woman actually is Billie Lourd, Carrie Fisher's daughter!

A Tribute To The Greats

Instead of another Death Star in The Force Awakens, we get to witness the Starkiller base, an even greater threat. Though many of you may recognize the name Starkiller as Darth Vader's apprentice in the Force Unleashed video game series, it was also Luke's original surname, before it was changed to Skywalker.

Protagonist Problems

Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, was reasonably nervous during the first day of filming. This was Star Wars after all, and she wanted to make a good impression. However, when director J.J. Abrams commented that her acting was a little wooden, she took the news hard.

"...he probably doesn't remember telling me that my performance was wooden. This was my first day! And I honestly wanted to die. I thought I was gonna cry, I couldn't breathe."

Ticket Giveaways!

Before the premiere of The Force Awakens, Carrie Fisher and Ellen DeGeneres both gave away premiere tickets dressed as Princess Leia. They actually stopped people while they were driving to hand out tickets from the side of the road.

Plenty Of Profit

The Force Awakens was given a budget of $200 million, though it made approximately $240 million during its opening weekend, breaking the record for highest-grossing opening weekend of all time.

Familiar Dialogue

Lots of lines were used in Episode IIV from the original trilogy, for example "I've got a bad feeling about this".

Following in the footsteps of the original trilogy, The Force Awakens has given us quite a few interesting facts to ponder over. With any hope, Rogue One and Episode VIII will supply us with even more!
