We loved growing up with Disney movies, and now that we are adults we can appreciate these stories in a whole new light. Here are some reasons why we love Disney movies more and more, even though we’re all grown up:
1. Now that we’ve lived some life, we truly understand how hard it is to stay focused, meet our goals, and achieve our dreams.
So when we see someone like Simba reclaim the Pride Lands from his evil uncle Scar, we are even more impressed. If only we could conquer the snooze button in the way that Simba climbs that rock, we would be winning at life.
2. On that note, we appreciate a good Disney movie montage even more.
When Shang sings “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” in Mulan, we see a montage of the soldiers training. As adults, we appreciate that even though it was shown in a three-minute (amazing) song, Mulan and her friends probably went through months of training in order to get down to business and defeat the Huns.
3. We understand the trials and tribulations our favorite characters go through in a different way.
As we grow up, we all have challenges, learn lessons, and move forward. Disney movies have a way of growing with you, so that each time you watch them you can relate to a different piece of the story. A great illustration of this is Toy Story 1, 2, and 3. No matter how old we are, Andy’s story gets us, and it is everything.
4. We really start to consider why villains like Scar are so evil.
Scar is, by all accounts, the worst when it comes to doing the right thing. But, as adults, we wonder why he got that way, you know? This is especially on our minds now that movies like the live-action Maleficent have shown us the other side of the story. Maybe if we could go back in time and change something in Scar’s past, he wouldn’t have become so rude and villain-y. Or maybe nothing would change because he’s pure evil. Either way, as adults, we thought about it thoroughly.
5. We still remember. Every. Single. Line.
We know we are not alone when we say this. No matter how much time goes by, the minute a movie starts, it all comes flooding back and it feels like home. We dare you to put on Aladdin right now and not sing every word of the opening song.
6. Now that we’re adults, we can watch a Disney movie any time we want.
We are in control of our own destiny, and if we decide that destiny is to have a classic Disney movie marathon while wearing a onesie and never leaving our couch, we shall do it. And we shall do it well. With lots of Mickey-shaped snacks on hand. We’ll start with Peter Pan and go straight on till morning.
7. The magic is still real, and we believe in it even more.
We will never stop believing that dreams come true, and we only have to re-watch our favorite Disney movie to be reminded of this. Cinderella, anyone?
