The 12 Worst Ideas Disney Characters Ever Had

From attempting to cut our own bangs, to relentlessly prank calling our crushes, to saving all our summer reading for the night before the first day of school, we’ve all had a bad idea or two in our days. Disney characters are no different. Here are 12 of the worst ideas they’ve had:

1. Banzai calling Pumbaa a pig in The Lion King.

Banzai, do you want to put Pumbaa into charging-warrior-warthog mode? Because that’s how you put Pumbaa into charging-warrior-warthog mode. As Timon swiftly retorts, you really shouldn’t have done that.

2. Jafar wishing to be a genie in Aladdin.

Jafar making this fatal error is one of those rare, delicious occasions in which justice is served immediately, in the form of an itty-bitty living space.

3. The Stabbington Brothers teaming up with Flynn in Tangled.

A guy like Flynn Rider has a widely known reputation as a clever rogue outlaw, and yet for some reason these two trust him to not double-cross them (a horrible decision, really).

4. Woody being jealous of Buzz in Toy Story.

Our friendly toy sheriff makes the classic mistake of letting his insecurities rule him. Had he just realized that he is one-of-a-kind, beloved, and irreplaceable, all would have been well.

5. The prince turning the old beggar woman away in Beauty and the Beast.

His comeuppance was swift and the punishment was harsh, but at least Beast can be comforted by the knowledge that had he not made this mistake, he might never have met Belle.

6. Anna attempting to marry a man she just met in Frozen.

It’s important to get to know someone before you marry them, just to make sure you share values and your personalities complement each other and one of you isn’t trying to steal the other’s kingdom. Anna really dodged a bullet here.

7. Snow White taking the apple from the witch in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Everything about this situation was sketchy, and Snow White was too trusting for her own good. Thank goodness for the power of true love’s kiss.

8. Yzma insulting Kronk’s spinach puffs in The Emperor’s New Groove.

Yzma’s crime here is inconceivable on several levels: 1. How dare she hurt poor, sweet Kronk’s feelings? 2. His spinach puffs are, we’re certain, a delight. This is the moment Yzma loses Kronk’s loyalty, a precious asset she severely undervalued.

9. Ariel giving up her voice in The Little Mermaid.

As Ariel learns, giving up something so central to who she is (especially to a sea witch) is never a good idea. Luckily, she gets her happy ending anyway.

10. Marlin not listening to Dory in Finding Nemo.

Swimming over the trench rather than through it nearly ended in jellyfish-laden disaster for Marlin and Dory. He learned his lesson though, and they met Crush, so all’s well that ends well.

11. Everybody underestimating Mulan in Mulan.

All the doubters probably felt really dumb after Mulan saved China. That’s all we have to say about that.

12. Jack Skellington trying to be Santa Claus in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

You can watch the third act of this film if you want all the details on how this panned out. We’ll call attention to just this one detail: Some kid got a shrunken head for Christmas.
