The
dream of putting up a Disneyland in the Philippines may not be a far fetched
idea after all.
Last
September 2015, the SM Group represented by its President Hans Sy, and Walt
Disney Company Asia through its President Paul Candland forged a five-year
partnership. Also attending the signing were Walt Disney Southeast Asia
Managing Director Rob Gilby and SM Lifestyle and Entertainment President Edgar
Tejerero.
Even
before the partnership, the two companies had already been working together for
a long time. SM had been showing Disney films, selling their merchandise, and
holding themed-events. The five-year collaboration will only further strengthen
that partnership and will also give Filipinos something enjoyable from Disney
and its group of companies such as Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars.
The partnership
aims to bring the Disney brand closer to the hearts of the Filipinos. As part
of the partnership, all of SM’s subsidiaries will provide Disney products to
the public.
The
question now is : Will this partnership lead to a Disneyland in Clark,
Pampanga. There are lots of rumors and stories swirling around that the
collaboration of the two companies could actually be a precursor to the birth
of Disneyland Philippines.
As to
when it will happen? Only time can tell. But one thing is for sure. Henry Sy’s
business empire has the resources and manpower to bring to reality the arrival
of the “Happiest Place on Earth” in the Philippines.
